Taiwan Celebrities Criticise Singaporean English |
I don't feel the video's too offending(after all, some of them are true. And whats worse? The rebutting comments(at the youtube video) are ... in Singlish! Alamak), they are just the few twists different groups of billugists around the world has brought to the English Language :) BTW, they didn't talked at all about Singlish, just some pronouciations stumpers. The 'dance', if you pronouce it with a 't' in front, 'ks' at the back, shouldn't be a problem. As for 'pregnant', I tried saying to myself umpteen times, I can't imagine what other word it can be mistaken as. That is not an entirely pronounciation problem. When we are being asked something, we somehow have some expectation what the question might be about in a certain situation. In this case, a tourist won't expect a custom officer to ask if she is expecting, so when she 'processes' his/her question, in her mind, she would find words, does he/she means 'pendant' or some other similar-sounding words? Add to that volume(speaking too soft), slangs, everything adds up to this cute misuderstanding :) I personally feel Singlish isn't bad. We can use it among ourselves, no problem and yes it feels friendier, but we MUST be able to switch to listenable/understandable English. It can be an optional national language if need be, but never supercede the English language. |

Birthday presents
Shopping for birthday presents have always been a dreadful experience for me, most of the time. You have to stick to budgets, don't know what the person's likes and dislikes(I don't normally do), and when I come across something I like I don't know if the recipient will feel the same way.
Today, I need to buy on behalf for everyone. I left my house rather worried. But the trip turns out surprisingly well, I have no idea why. I am armed, however, with a very good lead. Justyn's just got an ipad. (I am greeted with a very long queue at Funan. Enough to go round Funan perimeter twice! It's Starcraft2 release?) I should get this sometime. |
Wow Funan has got Itazura Neko! |
This SONIGEAR soundbar is only S$23! But too cheap for a present. |
These small keyboard are around S$60-70. |
More portable keyboards.. |
These ipad covers are awesome, at $39 each. If it is me, I would have a painful time deciding if I should cover up with these beautiful cover or show-off-the-sleek-apple-logo. |
This is one of my top choices too, it protects the ipad, like a case, you carry around with and when u flip over, the whole thing stands upright, at least its what the cover says, never got to try it out. At a sweet price of S$89. |
I eventually settled with a (very nice) keyboard and a laptop/ipad stand for Justyn. Keyboards has never been in the birthday presents' list. But this one totally grabbed my attention when I saw it. The reason why I got it, because I was salivating on the keyboard, then the saleman saw it, demanded me to buy it. So bo-pian. |
You don't bring around a stand when it is as big as the laptop itself. But this one, you can slip it into the bag's side pockets. It is so useful, I might get another one for myself sometime too! |
Other stuff... 什么! 还有武林秘籍, 摧心掌! |
That retro radio looks nice too. S$15 only. |

The durain cake |
Misc. |
Well the trip ended pretty pleasant. Is it because Justyn's taste is more attuned to my own's? Or Funan is a great shopping place? Anyway, I am looking forward to my next present shopping |

Here's a photo that will give u a heart-ache
I saw this on MSN(actually quite sometime ago...hehe). How could their parents bear that? Koreans are heartless! |
On a more serious note, I totally agree with the quote "Spare the rod, spoil the child". NS, at least for me, is a life-changer. So many things we took for granted. Of course, kids won't ever understand until they are taken for a ride, to nothing. "More and google "korean kids camp" like what I did. |

Double Lariat
Vocaloids are not my stuff. But it is a cute song, (see the neko clip~) so here it is...
Double Lariat Haha, to think the reason I clicked on the link was because I thought it was some info on Hachibi's Lariat(it was also Zangief's special attack, and probably the inspiration of this song)! |

Our old ethernet cable to kill HDMI?
Every now and often, a new HD(or super HD or whatever they like to call them) format pops up, as well as a new interface. Huh? The next generation of HD connectivity to be... ethernet cables? HDBaseT. Can our old trusty ethernet cable kill all the new-comers in HD interfaces? But the thought of combining electronics with computers(minus expensive equipments or uncompatible devices) is exciting! And with real-world tested Power-over-ethernet, we have fewer cable mess(translates to lower costs in manufacturing of addition cables so it's greener too). What an irony, Wi-fi killed ethernet, but video revived it! So, time to dig out that old ethernet cable from the store-room again! In a while that is, not so soon :) |

AMF! Hire The A-TEAM!
A-team is freaking hilarious! As much as it's action! Alpha Mike Foxtrot! How far can a crazy colonel, ladies'-man, a lunatic(real), a ranger with a fear of planes go? A lot, it seems! :) When did Predator has machine guns (it took down 2 of the tank's parachutes)? And it maneuvers like a fighter! Wah ha. |

Karate Kid
After seeing the movie, I went wiki-ing 'KARATE KID(2010)' (which I sometimes do), and guess what did I find out? |
Michelle Yeoh had a cameo? What? She is the cobra lady(woman in the pic)! |
Then, the article suddenly struck me, hey this is chinese kung-fu, what karate! I didn't thought of that at all! And maybe because of " deindividuation" reasons, the movie is released in a different title in China, Japan and South Korea, which is pretty strange if u ask me~ A rather awkward situation when you need to follow the name, but change the signifying element. Plus an interesting link, the guy who starred the original 'karate kid', had a hilarious video. Go click on the link to see it! |

Something not too pleasant

One of the tech industries best kept (dirty) secret. Very sad. Almost all of us have no idea, with all the technology around us that we take for granted, myself included, before this video. |

"Want to see something cool?"
Not actually cool(by my standards), this is Jay's first Hollywood break. Thought he was doing Ip Man 3? But I kinda like his accent on : "Want to see something cool?". (Jay's magic Hmm the trailer, it doesn't even come across as average. The protaganist doesn't have deep enough "ah-I've-come-to-my-senses-to-do-good" expression with the likes of Spiderman or Ironman. Oh boy, poor Jay. I just can't see this breaking box-offices. |
