Shangri-La (wiki) started out pretty impactful, with great promise (read on) to be a successful series. The story background is a fictitious future where the world has finally taken global warming seriously. In reality, carbon credits and market do exist too. (Now will the world wake up to save the anime industry too? :p )
May'n (wiki) sings the opening "Kimi Shinitamō Koto Nakare (キミシニタモウコトナカレ)". A pretty decent song.

First episode and we can see some fighting.. Haven't seen a boomerang as a choice of weapon for quite some time now. Wow dodging bullets matix style is a little ehh... ( Some day, everyone will learn to give and take, let's put this little exaggeration aside. And besides we can't complain, that will get us more hand to hand combat fights! ) The fighting at the first episode is ok, then you would think the fighting can only get better? Ahem...
As mentioned before, the background is set in the future, so more high-tech goodies...hehe...
The lead character - Hojo Kuniko. Kawaii, energetic shoujo who can kick butt! Show started off when she has to decide to take over her aging grandma as the leader of a guerrilla group (Metal-Age). Kuniko seems very clever too, so I sort of expected Lelouch-style tactics, but that never really hap.. Ahem.. Or learn more fighting techniques.... Ahem Ahem
Character development also falls a bit short, sure there are many life-changing events in the show, and Kuniko has her ups and downs, it is just didn't leave a deep enough impression on the viewers... (at least for me)
Carbon markets. I don't much about economics, but I feel the econs language used in the show is too baffling for the average anime viewer! This is both a good and bad point. It excites the geeks, who will probably find it SOPHISTICATED, but it turns the causal viewer off. I don't think any schooling children can understand.
The shows still ends with a LOT of un-answered questions. They threw almost everything at the viewers, packed in the last episode. ( Can someone tell me why Kuniko is always in her seifuku when I don't see any evidence of her schooling, and nobody else wears it in the show! ! ! Calm down. Calm down. It's an anime :p )
Now the joke of the (final) episode. When a flying fortress, satellite fails, what would our heros/heroines do? Yeah great. They 'hack' the evil A.I. with...... toy-hammers, HAMEHAME-HA !
