秒速5センチメートル - a chain of short stories about their distance review

Major spoilers.

Theme song!

Woo hehe, a (few) weeks after watching 秒速5センチメートル, I have all praise for the show, and no thanks for the screening place for attempting to spoilt the show! ha!

TO protect the premise in question, I will not state here where it is. But I do have to rant a little, damn, without any warning, the projector turned off by itself! -like some childen playing prank with the remote. Thats not worst, what is, is the sunlight from outside the room is so strong that the screen appeared so dim! 最悪だ!

Back to reviewing, the show starts off pretty sadly, the two 幼なじみ being separated. The treacherous(ok I am exaggerating. hehe) journey young Takaki has to undertake on the notoriously confusing Japan railways. The most of the journey is depressing, because Takaki is running real late on his 'date', and have no way (no cellphone) to inform Akari. Shikai is keeping us really uneasy at the edge of our seat the whole time. Haha. Then the relief! The trip paid off, seeing the couple so happy seeing each other together is so sweet.

Overall, its a strange feeling Shikai-san has left us at the end of the movie. Something different from Shikai-san's previous works, this one has no sci-fic theme. And unlike 雲のむこう、約束の場所 (The Place Promised in Our Early Days), viewers are in for a sad ending. Well the couple is not together in the end, Takaki suffering from depression and Akari happily getting married(not to Takaki!) It is another show which reminds us how sad it is sometimes that we don't get what we want; things don't go our way(just like how we all would like the ending to be! haha), to cherish the bonds we have now. A stark reminder how remote the society is, the stuff we sacrificed for commitments(like work). The storyline is very simple, what is magical is the actions and interactions of the characters, the plot, the animations and of course the music. Maybe because I am also at my own crossroads now, that the show sorta reminded me how lost I am!

Likes: I really like the animation of the Music video of the theme song, especially the parts where the shujinko 主人公-たち looked to the side, then it transits to the other scene! It is just too bad that it is so sad watching the MV.

A little bit more info about the theme song - "One More Time, One More Chance". It is actually 10 years older than the movie! Made by 山崎 まさよし - Yamazaki Masayoshi in 1997. I was only a 中学生 back then(but I am not involved with any jap-craze back then). The movie PV version, when u compare to the original song, you will find a lot of sound effects added in to boost the song!

Guess I am too young to understand this complicated film :D でも心配いらない! いけ, Takaki! Crash the wedding and steal the bride!
